CDXZipStream

Welcome to the CDXZipStream July 2012 Newsletter

7777

We've just added some new features to the CDXZipStream function CDXLocateMP, which will now allow you to identify county, Metropolitan Statistical Area, and even census tract for a specific address.  CDXLocateMP uses Microsoft MapPoint working in the background to obtain this data.  And speaking of MapPoint, Microsoft has just released MapPoint 2013.

Here are our latest blog postings:

Identify County, MSA, and Census Tract

The CDXZipStream custom function CDXLocateMP, can return a lot of information about specific addresses, and now can do even more by identifying county name, metropolitan/micropolitan statistical area name, and even census tract number.

Just right-click on any cell on your worksheet, and under the CDXZipStream Functions menu select CDXLocateMP.  Input address information (or the worksheet cell location of the address) and select the type of data you would like returned.  CDXLocateMP works with Microsoft MapPoint running in the background to find a matching address in the MapPoint database and retrieve the desired data associated with it.  For a general tutorial on how to use CDXLocateMP, please refer to the YouTube video tutorial Geocoder in Excel.  In this case just specify county, MSA, or census tract in lieu of latitude and longitude data.

MapPoint 2013 is Here

Microsoft has just released the 2013 version of MapPoint, available for purchase from their website and also available as a fully-functional 14 day trial.  (Previous trials were 60 days.)

This latest release has added about 150,000 miles of new roads over MapPoint 2011, for a current total of 6,688,642 miles of navigable roads.   The user interface also has an updated look, but there are not many changes in the software functionality; this is primarily a data update for maps and points of interest.

CDXZipStream uses Microsoft MapPoint in the following custom functions:

 - CDXLocateMP (for geocoding and other data retrieval for specific address locations)

 - CDXRouteMP (for driving distance/time calculation and route optimization)

If you are a regular user of these functions, consider upgrading to the new MapPoint to take advantage of the more accurate, updated maps.

Latest Data Updates

Canadian and U.S. data feeds were updated as of July 2 and 3, respectively.   If you would like to update your database to reflect these changes, click on the "License Information and Software Updates" icon on the CDXZipStream toolbar, and select "Data Updates" to login to your account.

We hope you find the information here helpful for you and your organization.  Please contact us with your feedback and suggestions by replying to this email.
