CDXZipStream

Welcome to the CDXZipStream July 2014 Newsletter

In this month's newsletter we discuss Microsoft's decision to stop sellling MapPoint desktop software as of December 31.  Our clients who use MapPoint versions of CDXZipStream can continue to do so with their current software indefinitely, but we are now working to develop other versions of CDXZipStream that work with a MapPoint alternative.  We also introduce a new tutorial for a free Excel template that both geocodes and sorts locations based on their distance from a target.

Microsoft Will Stop Selling MapPoint as of December 31, 2014

Microsoft has just announced that they will stop selling MapPoint (both North American and European versions) at the end of this year. Sales of Microsoft AutoRoute and Streets & Trips will also be discontinued.  Mainstream support end dates are 7-14-2015 for MapPoint North America and 1-12-2016 for MapPoint Europe.

The retirement of these products will not affect software already installed.  You can indefinitely continue to use Microsoft MapPoint as a stand-alone software and in conjunction with our Excel add-in CDXZipStream.

In the meantime, we are investigating alternatives to MapPoint that can provide the same efficient and economical approach to routing and driving calculations in Excel.  We will continue to support the versions of CDXZipStream that work with MapPoint, but will also develop new products that can take advantage of the most current map data, since Microsoft will not be updating their data beyond MapPoint 2013.  Please look to our newsletter for updates on our MapPoint replacement efforts.

Tutorial for Our Free Geocode and Sort Template

Do you need to accurately identify the closest customers to a store location, closest delivery points to a warehouse, or closest vendors to a client?  Our free Geocode and Sort Template uses street address information to determine the latitude and longitude for a list of locations, then uses this data to calculate distances and sort locations according their distance from a target location.

In cases where using ZIP codes is sufficient, you can also use our free Radius Analysis template which calculates distances based on the ZIP code centroid location.  All free templates can be downloaded from our Links page.

Here's a tutorial that shows the Geocode and Sort template in action:

The template can be evaluated using the free demo versions of CDXZipStream and Microsoft MapPoint.  It works with MapPoint, Basic, and premium demographic versions of CDXZipStream, and requires separate purchase and installation of Microsoft MapPoint (North American or European versions).  If you need to upgrade your license to access one of these versions, please log in to your CDXTech.com account and go to the "My Account" and "Product Management" areas to purchase an upgraded license.

This template is an abbreviated version of our Bulk Radius Analysis template.  The Bulk Radius Analysis template will also create customized reports showing the closest locations for multiple targets.  For more information, please refer to the article Store Locator and Bulk Radius Analysis in Microsoft Excel.
