CDXZipStream

Welcome to the CDXZipStream June 2012 Newsletter

We've just updated demographic feeds for cities, counties, states, and CBSAs (Core Based Statistical Areas). These feeds are based on a combination of data from the 2010 Census, 2006-2010 American Community Survey, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Statistics of U.S. Businesses.  There's also an effort to legislate away the American Community Survey, which would result in the loss of an invaluable resource for both business and government.

Here are our latest blog postings:

The American Community Survey at Risk

On May 9 the U.S. House of Representatives voted to eliminate funding for the American Community Survey; the measure is now pending in the U.S. Senate as part of a broader funding bill included in the federal government's 2013 proposed budget.  For more information, please refer to the Business Week article Killing the American Community Survey Blinds Business.

If you're not familiar with the American Community Survey, it is administered by the U.S. Census Bureau to about 3 million households each year.  It has replaced the old "long form" that was last used with the 2000 Census. So instead of being a single snapshot of the U.S. population taken every ten years, it's a continuously updated, ongoing survey that's a major source of social, economic, and housing information. It is also a significant source of demographic data in CDXZipStream that covers many areas currently not included in the 2010 Census.

If you support the need to continue the American Community Survey, please consider contacting your U.S

Senator.  Contact addresses, phone numbers, and emails for all members of the Senate are available from the Senate website.

We have just updated our data feeds for cities, counties, states, and CBSAs (Core Based Statistical Areas).  These are associated with the data feeds CDXCity, CDXCounty, CDXState, and CDXCBSA, respectively, which are available with the CDXZipStream Premium and Premium ACS versions.  Please see our website for more information on the available versions of the software.

Here are the areas covered in the new data feeds:

Household size from the 2010 Census

Population statistics from the 2010 Census

Race statistics from the 2010 Census

Population estimates for the last 10 years from the U.S. Census Bureau*

*Not available for CDXCity

If you already have the Premium or Premium ACS version, you can get the updated feeds above by purchasing a data update.  Just click on the "License Information and Software Updates" icon on the CDXZipStream toolbar, and select "Data Updates" to login to your account and purchase an update.  (Your user name is usually the email address you used to purchase the software).  You can then select "Product Management" under the My Account area of our website and click on "Download Data Files" to download and install the new database.  If you have another version of CDXZipStream and would like to upgrade to the Premium or Premium ACS version, you can also purchase the upgrade through your online account. Please see our price list at the bottom for upgrade and data update pricing.

Since CDX Technologies is now obtaining this data directly from the sources instead of through a third party, we have changed field names in most cases to better reflect the available data.  If you currently use these feeds, you will need to run the main CDXZipStream dialog and update the field names in your worksheets.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please refer to the file CDXZipStream Data Feeds and Definitions for a complete list of all current data fields.
