CDXZipStream

Welcome to the CDXZipStream August 2016 Newsletter

This month we review the product support resources available from our new website and highlight the customization services we offer for CDXZipStream, ranging from one-time data retrieval projects to custom-designed Excel templates.  We also cover use of CDXZipCode and CDXLocateBing/MP functions for getting county information.

This August there were an unusually high number of changes to the CDXZipStream ZIP Code database.  Data updates require a maintenance subscription which can be purchased from your account area on
CDXTech.com under "Buy Data Update".  The maintenance subscription also provides a free upgrade to the latest 64-bit version of CDXZipStream, which includes Bing Maps functionality.

A Roundup of Product Support Options

The new CDXTech.com has reorganized support areas for both CDXZipStream and CDXStreamer which provide easy access to resources like instructional tutorials, informational articles, troubleshooting guides and more. Here's a quick review of the on-line support available to help you better use our software products:

Video tutorials: We have dozens of instructional videos showing how to use the software and related templates. Click on the video links from CDXTech.com, or you can view them directly from our CDX Technologies YouTube Channel.

Informational Resources: These include how-to articles as well as online help files for each product (also available from the Excel commandbar), listings of available data fields, and Excel files showing examples of all data feeds and functionality.

EULA: Refer to the end user license agreement in each support area if licensing, warranty or other related questions arise.

Additional information can be found on the FAQ pages for each product, blog posts (found under the "Company" link at the top of the website), and of course the help files accessible from each product commandbar as well as the website. As an aside, the most frequent (by far) support question we receive is - how do I reinstall CDXZipStream on a new or formatted computer? You can find the answer in the CDXZipStream help file (under "Troubleshooting") and our most recent blog post here.

CDXZipStream Customization Services

Customization Image

Do you have a special project that can use CDXZipStream functionality, but we don't offer an off-the-shelf database or template that can do the job? Here are some examples of how we can customize CDXZipStream for you, to better support your business needs around address, zip code, and data analysis in general:

Do a one-time analysis: Need to use CDXZipStream functionality just once? If you are not interested in purchasing the software for future use, we can provide the hard data that fills your specific need. This is often an economically attractive alternative, particularly in lieu of the more expensive demographic versions of CDXZipStream.

Get a custom Excel template: We can build pre-formatted templates that perform specific tasks with existing CDXZipStream functions, often combining multiple functions from CDXZipStream and Excel to get the final required answer. Tasks can usually be fully automated so that after data entry, a simple click of a button is all that's required of the user. We currently offer free, downloadable templates that perform basic analyses, such as geocoding (getting latitude/longitude data), route optimization, radius analysis, and more. But if you have a more complex task, consider a customized template. This is also a great option if you need to standardize CDXZipStream applications for less experienced Excel users.

Apply CDXZipStream beyond Excel: We've previously published the basic programming code that allows CDXZipStream to be applied to other Office applications beyond Excel. This code is not proprietary and we invite our clients to use it as they please. Not into programming?   We can do it for you, and get CDXZipStream functionality, ranging from route optimization to radius analysis, exactly where you need it.

Use CDXZipStream with a custom database: We've designed CDXZipStream around the use of address, zip code, and demographic data, but the concept of selectively taking data from a local database and putting it in Excel with custom functions can be applied to a wide variety of data needs. Whether you have a private database you would like to use more efficiently through a spreadsheet platform, or want to mine a commercially available set of data that we don't currently include in our own feeds, we can build a version of CDXZipStream that will work for you, using our patented interface.

Getting Accurate County Information

County information with CDXZipStream is very easy to retrieve using just the ZIP code for a location along with the function CDXZipCode. Here's a tutorial showing how it works:

Zip Code County Dialog

Get City, County, and State from ZIP Codes

But ZIP Codes do not map consistently with geographical boundaries; a few ZIP Codes span multiple counties, even multiple states. For these cases, using CDXZIPCode will only return the one primary county or state, so for very accurate data we recommend using either the CDXLocateBing or CDXLocate MP (MapPoint) function, which returns the correct county name for a specific address or point of latitude and longitude. This approach can be also be used for state, region, or province information for locations outside the United States.

Latest Data Updates

Canadian and U.S. data feeds of CDXZipStream were updated as of August 26.  There were 3490 changes made to the U.S. database this month.  If you would like to update your database to reflect these changes, select the "Account" option on the CDXZipStream commandbar and click on "Check for Available Database Updates".  You can then update each database as required.

CDXZipStream updates are a part of the one-year software maintenance subscription included with your purchase.  If you would like to extend your subscription, please sign in to the CDX Technologies website and from the account area for CDXZipStream, select "Buy Data Update".

As always we hope you find the information here helpful for you and your organization.  You can contact us with your feedback and suggestions by replying to this email.
