CDXZipStream

Welcome to the CDXZipStream March 2014 Newsletter

We've updated all the free, downloadable templates for CDXZipStream to allow for empty rows of data.  Also, we have a new tutorial showing how you can build your own radius filtering file.

Updates of All Free Templates

We've just updated all the free CDXZipStream Excel templates available for download from our links page.

Previously, it was a requirement that all data entered into the templates be in consecutive rows; the templates would stop calculations at the first empty row.  Since it can be tedious for the user to remove empty rows from very long data lists imported from other applications, we've eliminated this requirement.  Now the templates will skip empty rows and proceed with the relevant calculations until the very last row of data is reached.

The templates automate many of the functions available through CDXZipStream, and since they are accessed directly through VBA (instead of worksheet cells), the calculations are even faster.  Here's a roundup of what the templates can do:

Driving calculations:  Calculate the driving distance, time, cost, and total trip duration between addresses.  This can be done between two lists of locations (Driving Calculations template), or for a matrix of locations (Driving Matrix template).  Video tutorials:  Driving Distance and Time Calculations in an Excel Template, Driving Distance and Time for a Matrix of Addresses

Geocoding:  Get the latitude and longitude of a list of addresses (Geocoding template) or get the closest addresses for a list of geocode points (Reverse Geocoder template).  Video tutorials:  Get Latitude and Longitude for Addresses in Excel, Reverse Geocode Template for Microsoft Excel

Route Optimization:  Find the quickest or shortest route for a list of addresses (Route Optimization template).  Route optimization can also be done using points of latitude and longitude as input (Lat-Long Route Optimization template).  Video tutorials: Route Optimization with One Click, Route Optimization with Latitude and Longitude

Radius Analysis:  Find addresses that fall within a radius distance of a single target location (Radius Calculations template), or multiple targets (Geocode and Sort by Distance template).  We also offer a specialty template for nuclear facility locations (Nuclear Facility Radius Calculator).  Video tutorials:  ZIP Code Radius Analysis in an Excel Template, Nuclear Plant Locator in Microsoft Excel

FIPS Code Identification:  Find the block or census tract FIPS codes for a list of addresses (Census Tract FIPS Code Template).  These codes can then be used for getting census tract demographics through the CDXZipStream  CDXTract database, which is available through the CDXZipStream Premium Demographics version.  Video tutorial:  Get Census Tract FIPS Codes in an Excel Template

New Radius Filtering Tutorial

We've updated the tutorial Find ZIP Codes in a Radius, which demonstrates how to identify which addresses in a given list are within a radius distance of a zip code.  This approach uses the CDXRadius function of CDXZipStream, in conjunction with the VLOOKUP function of Excel.  The VLOOKUP function requires that all ZIP codes in the analysis be in the same text format, and the tutorial covers how you can use Excel formulas to make that happen.  Click on the image below to see the YouTube version:

This same analysis is provided in the free Radius Analysis template, downloadable from our links page.
